Bouncy Balls

Helpful Hint:
We found that these bouncy balls seem to work better when they are smaller. Try making different sizes and let us know what you think.

Level: Beginning to Intermediate

Time: 30 minutes

Materials:

  • Two Bowls (one medium and one small)

  • Borax

  • Warm Water

  • Corn Starch

  • School Glue (such as Elmer's)

  • Gloves (latex or similar)

  • Food Coloring (optional)

  • Glitter (optional)

Directions:

  1. In the medium bowl, Borax with warm water at a ratio of 1/2 cup water to every 1 Tbsp Borax. (note: you can use as much as you wish as long as you stay with the ratio. This bowl will be used for dipping in).

  2. Stir the Borax and water until fully dissolved.

  3. In the small bowl, pour 2 Tbsp glue for every 1/8 tsp corn starch. Mix well.

  4. (Optional) Add food coloring and glitter to the glue mixture. Mix well.

  5. Pour the glue mixture into the Borax mixture. Swirl it around until all of it is thoroughly submerged.

  6. Use your gloved hands to take the mixture out and roll it in your hands. The glue will have hardened a little. Continue to roll it around between your two hands until it is a sphere and hardens. Set aside to dry.

Once your ball is slightly drier, you may start bouncing it!

Now you can try new ratios, new sizes and adding new ingredients. What did you notice?
